Can't hear alarms

Those of us over a certain age simply cannot hear the beep at the end of a timer. It is too high pitched. Also, it goes off for, what, a second never to be heard from again. Is there a way to make an audible alarm that keeps beeping at a lower frequency?

I was going to be a wise-a** and blame my tinnitus but you beat me to it. How about a single alarm but multiple frequencies, kind of like a European ambulance....

Or something. If I'm right smack in the front of the computer and looking at it when it goes off, I can hear it. But if I so much as turn my head, I get nothing.
