Hi Brewers.
I have just invested in a conical fermenter & the instructions that come with it tell me to do a yeast dump to remove dead cells every 24 hours during fermentation.
Does anyone out there do this as I was always led to believe to leave well alone until fermentation is complete?

You may want to do an initial dump once active fermentation has started, but otherwise I'd leave it alone. During fermentation most of the yeast will be in suspension. But before active fermentation starts you may end up dumping yeast that fell to the bottom simply b/c it was not completely deflocculated and suspended yet. Once fermentation is complete the beer still needs some yeast for clean-up. Yeast can start flocculate and drop out pretty quickly, even before the beer has reached its FG.

As you get to know your conical better, you can start playing wit it more.

I don't have one myself, though.

Thanks for that Kaiser.
I think I leave well alone for the first couple of brews!
