At a quick glance, I'd have at least boiled the wort part of this prior to adding it.
 
how long should I have boiled it for and what would it have done since I was not using hops?
 
I can't imagine you need to boil it for long, especially if you are using malt extracts. I would probably do what I do for starters and boil it for about 10-20 minutes.
 
I was mainly speaking of the wort from the steeped grains. They can still have nasty's on them. The darker the lovibond, the more they've been cooked and the less chance they'll have bacteria on them.
The DME should be fine.
